Education

TheFirst Nation is served by the BrochetElementary School. It isoperated by the Frontier School Division. The Keewatin Tribal Counciladministers PHP students on behalf of the First Nation. The total KTC PHPstudent enrolment for 2003-2004 was 143.

 

Emergency Services

 

Health Care

The nearest hospital is near Lynn Lake. Air ambulance is available. The First Nation also has a community health representative.

 

Police

The nearest RCMP detachments inLynn Lake. There are three 3B officers stationed in Lynn Lake.

 

Fire Protection

The First Nation hastwo fire control packs and shares fire fighting equipment with the adjacentcommunity. The First Nation also has ancillary firefighting equipment and twostorage buildings.

 

Infrastructure

 

Water supply

Portable water isprovided by the Brochet Community Pump house which is drawn from Reindeer Lake. It is distributed via a water truck andone standpipe. The school, administration office, nursing station, the NorthernStore and RCMP office use individual piped systems. Twenty-seven houses havetrucked water to holding tanks while the remainders have trucked water tobarrels.
 

 Electricity

Service is provided bydiesel generating plants.

 

 Sewage Disposal

Most residents use pitprivies. A two-celled lagoon serves the community of Brochet, Frontier schooland teacherages, the nursing station, Administration office and RCMP office.Twenty-two houses have holding tanks and fifteen houses have independent septicservice.

 

Roads

There are approximately 3kilometres of internal roads. In addition, there is a  road to the airstrip, about 2 kilometres fromthe community. There are no all-weather roads or rail transportation systems inthe community. An all weather road connects LynnLake to Co-op Point in Reindeer Lake, SK.

 

Postal Service

There are 3 deliveriesper week. Mail can be picked up at the administration building in Brochet.

 

Communications

TV and radio service islimited to that which is received via a satellite dish. Radio programming isavailable from CBC. Direct telephone service is provided through the digitalmultiplex switching system.

 

Transportation

Access is by air. Thereis a 3,000 ft gravel airstrip maintained in the community. There is scheduledair service to Thompson and charters are available from Thompson and LynnLake.A winter road is constructed each winter to freight in construction materialsand fuel.
